Why visit both Pompeii and Herculaneum?
Pompeii and Herculaneum were both destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, but each site tells a very different story. Visiting them together gives you a fascinating and much more complete picture of Roman life around the Bay of Naples.

Pompeii & Herculaneum: two cities, one volcano

Few places in the world offer the extraordinary opportunity to walk through two ancient Roman cities preserved by the same volcanic eruption.

Pompeii and Herculaneum were both overwhelmed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, but each tells a remarkably different story.

Pompeii: a city frozen in time

We begin with Pompeii, the larger and more extensive of the two sites.

Here, the ancient city unfolds across streets, houses, shops, temples, theatres and public spaces. Walking through Pompeii gives you an extraordinary sense of scale: this was not simply an archaeological settlement, but a real Roman city where thousands of people lived, worked, traded and enjoyed their daily lives.

Moving between the two sites

If you prefer, we can travel between Pompeii and Herculaneum by train, using the local rail connection and avoiding the need to organize a separate transfer.

Alternatively, if your service includes private Limo / VAN transportation, we can move comfortably between the sites by car.

The choice depends on your schedule, group size and the type of experience you prefer.

Time for lunch

Visiting two archaeological sites in one day is an intense and fascinating experience — so there should also be time to stop and enjoy lunch.

We can organise a lunch break between the two visits, selecting an appropriate local restaurant according to your preferences, schedule and dietary requirements.

It is a chance to rest, enjoy some local food and recharge before continuing our journey beneath the volcano.
